Spanish Fleet

Below is a listing of the Spanish warships that were at the Battle of Santiago de Cuba and subsequently destroyed in the engagement with the American fleet. These ships represented the major units of the Spanish Navy. At the Battle of Santiago de Cuba, this fleet was at a severe disadvantage and the Admiral Cervera y Topete knew this and informed his high command. Nevertheless, he was ordered to breakout of the blockaded harbor. By the end of the day, Spain's main fleet would lay in ruins.
