The torpedo room on the USS Oregon. The ship had two torpedo rooms, one centerline forward and one centerline aft. This particular photograph shows the aft torpedo room. Note the two Whitehead torpedoes on the storage racks. Eventually the torpedo tubes would be removed later in the Oregon's life. Torpedoes were part of the armament for battleships until World War II. During World War II, torpedoes were mainly found on destroyers.
