The "Charge of
the Oregon"
Above: "There goes Oregon rushing forward
like a bulldog with a bone in her teeth" (referring to the
foaming white bow wake). An American Naval Officer at the Battle
of Santiago.
A copy of an original painting by Warren Sheppard done
in 1898 shortly after the War with Spain. The image depicts the
USS Oregon speeding after the Cristobal Colon. The
Oregon has just fired the right gun of her forward thirteen
inch turret at the fleeing Spanish vessel. The American ship in
the distance on the left of this image is presumably the USS
Texas.
