USS Indianapolis salutes the USS Oregon
Above: A Pre-World War II post card showing the heavy
cruiser USS Indianapolis rendering honors to the USS
Oregon moored as a museum ship in Portland, Oregon. It was
common practice for Navy ships entering Portland to salute the
Battleship Oregon. Sadly both ship were destroyed as a
result of the approaching war. The USS Indianapolis was
torpedoed late in the war by a Japanese submarine resulting in
a great loss of life.
